Innovative Technology

Digital Dentistry

The Trios intraoral scanner is a terrific addition to the technology of Dr. Grieco’s practice. Dr. Grieco can scan the mouth without the use of messy impression materials and cumbersome trays (a huge benefit for those with a sensitive gag reflex) and send a digital file to the dental lab for immediate fabrication of your dentistry. Advances in digital dentistry have resulted in less time spent with temporaries, fittings, and results, which are a big plus.

Digital Radiography

The DEXIS sensor x-ray system has been utilized in Dr. Grieco’s practice for the last 15 years as a way of better diagnosing dental disease and lessening patient exposure to radiation by 75-80%.

DIAGNOdent™ Caries (Decay) Detection System

Even though Dr Grieco uses digital x-rays to lessen radiation exposure and help better diagnose issues with teeth and periodontium, some cavities in the teeth at the enamel/dentin interface are not visible on x-rays. It is generally a wise choice to not x-ray children and the DIAGNOdent™ is an excellent alternative, harnessing incredible technology that detects decay/weakness in a tooth on the biting surface at the gumline or in between teeth. The DIAGNOdent™ uses laser fluorescence to aid in the detection of caries (decay). The treatment often incorporates ozone therapy coupled with nutrition/supplement counseling to avoid drilling on the teeth. In some cases, there may be a need for a small sealant/filling if tooth enamel has a hole in it or is not responding to alternative treatment. Dr. Grieco uses the DIAGNOdent™ on adults as well.

Oxygen/Ozone Therapy

The mouth as well as the rest of the body contains a delicate balance of good and bad microorganisms. When this balance is disrupted, disease-causing life forms become the dominate microorganisms. They live together in a biofilm around the teeth and under the gums. This imbalance is responsible for gingivitis, periodontal disease, and decay.

The biofilm contains an infection that is a mix of bacteria, fungi, viruses, and parasites that needs different agents to treat, which can sometimes have toxic side effects. But there has now been found an agent in OZONE that can eliminate the infection and support health by creating better blood flow, immune response, and more rapid healing.

The discovery of ozone in dentistry is historically credited to a Swiss dentist in the early 1900s by the name of E.A. Fisch. Dr. Grieco uses the ozone generator Promolife. Medical grade oxygen goes through a crystal cathode tube which charges it to create O3 (Ozone).

The oxygen/ozone is used in various ways: infused in water to irrigate periodontal pockets or tooth extraction sites, hygiene before and after treatment, and cleansing of a tooth before filling. Oxygen/ozone gas is used to disinfect teeth before filling to decrease tooth/root sensitivity, periodontal abscess and tooth abscess, jawbone infection/cavitation.

IV Vitamin C

Dr. Grieco routinely administers intravenous (IV) vitamin C to help support the immune system, glutathione levels, tissue repair, and heavy metal scavenging during and after procedures.

PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma)

Therapy PRP is a biological agent of super-rich concentrated solution of plasma containing growth factors and platelets. It is used to promote tissue healing and regeneration in sites of trauma. Dr. Grieco will take a vial of your blood and put it in the centrifuge to obtain your plasma concentrate. This plasma is used on minor surgery sites such as cavitation and simple extraction sites.

Intraoral Camera

The DEXIS DEXcam intraoral camera is a very detailed piece of technology used to aid in a more accurate diagnosis, plus improvement in education, documentation and quality of care.  Dr. Grieco and his team utilize the intraoral camera to perform what is essentially a guided tour of the mouth, creating a “show and tell” of your overall oral health.

The photos obtained from the camera can also be used to collaborate with specialists and obtain better reimbursement from insurance carriers.
